Well done and a big thank you to all the boys and girls who are fighting in foreign lands. I think it is high time our troops were looked after when they leave the forces with offers of good Employment (Retrained if required) and a good pension when they retire, after all they have put their lives on the line. Thank you guys and a Safe, Healthy and prosperous 2010.

The troops who are currently serving or who have served in any war zone deserve to be congratulated and should hold their heads up high (but only when not in the war zone itself!!). They do an excellent job, with limited resources and/or incorrect equipment. Not only that, they are doing a job that they love and signed up to do. If the politicians spent as much time getting them the correct equipment as they do talking about it there would be a lot less casualties. Keep up the good work boys and girls, and remember most of the British public are behind you. My thoughts are with you.

To all of our men and women serving anywhere in the world, you have my deepest pride and admiration. You do the toughest shitty job, and never seem to complain, it scares me to think you maybe front line and ill equipped, how can that be so in 2009...I'm ashamed that our government is letting you down...despite all this you help people sleep at night simply because you're there...i know you consider this your job/vocation..to me you're complete heros and i couldn't be more proud. God bless you all, safe return home Yvonne xxx

THE SACRAFICES THAT ALL OUR SOLDIERS MAKE AND GIVE THEIR LIFES FOR ON A DAILY BASIS ARE ABOVE ANY POLITICS BECAUSE THE POLITICIANS WHO HAVE SO BADLY LET THE MEN ON THE FRONTLINE DOWN WITH NOT HAVING THE PROPER EQUIPMENT,WHILE THEY LINE THEIR OWN POCKETS WITH THE TAX PAYERS MONEY FOR THEIR EXPENSES WHILE OUR TROOPS ARE DYING,THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES,BECAUSE I'M ASHAMED OF MYSELF FOR LETTING THEM AWAY WITH IT FOR SO LONG,THEY SHOULD BE HELD MORE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS,BECAUSE WHEN POLITIC FAIL THATS WHEN THE SOLDIER HAS TO FIGHT TO COIN A PHRASE ( WHEN YOU GO HOME,TELL THEM OF US AND SAY,FOR THEIR TOMMORROW, WEGAVE OUR TODAY.) IF ANY SOLDIER READS THIS, TAKE HEART, WHILE YOU ARE AWAY IN A FORIEGN LAND ,AWAY FROM YOUR LOVED ONES,YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN..! BE PROUD, I AM OF U

Having served 12 years in the RAF, I feel proud of the sacrifice others are making for our safety in this world...and sadness for the loss of life...but what does make me happy to be English, is the way people are responding and showing their appreciation. Even in death, they come out and stand in the rain to say thank you...well I say Thank you..

As an ex regular soldier, I am extremely proud of the professional way that you all go about your tasks that are allotted to your various Units. I know that most of the population of the U.K. are wishing you all a safe return home to your families. If our Defence Minister did "break a gut" doing all the things that he knows need doing, including finding more money for specialist equipment, he wouldn't be missed by the rest of the population.

Well what can I say when it really is an extraordinary more than ordinary act to do for your country.. whether or not the politics are to be believed in. The dangers in joining the forces are evidently extremely higher risk these days than in the last half century, and it is so brave and admirable to enter such a career. One of my sons is 15 and highly contemplating signing up in the forthcoming years... and it is such a worry but i WOULD NEVER DETER HIM. It is his gut instinct and ambition. sending lots of respect and admiration to all soldiers and equally their families!!

This is a genuine question and i would love some feedback. I JUST HOPE THAT WHEN THESE YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN COME HOME AND BACK INTO CIVILIAN LIFE ONE DAY THAT THIS COUNTRY RECOGNISES WHAT THEY HAVE DONE AND NOT JUST CAST THEM TO ONE SIDE AS HAS HAPPENED IN THE PAST.

I too have been watching that Ross Kemp in Afghanistan, and i take my hat of to him coz he has bravely give us all an insight to what you men and women do day in and day out. And im sure he doesnt go on the more dangerous operations.

I feel you are all hero's, all brave and we as a nation should be very proud. With all the knife and gun crime going on now, you men and women give our generation hope that there is still decent men and women, willing to fight for their country. You guys stand tall above the rest, I truely hope after you come home that your lives will forever be comfortable and forfilled. It disgusts me when i see our ex servicemen treated the way they are today and i was disgusted to here a troop say his mrs earns more workin in a call centre.

You are truly the heroes of the modern world. You are keeping your country and all the people in it safe. And for that every single person in Britain and all over the world owe their lives to you. Stay strong guys :).

You're amazing people and I have the utmost respect for you.

I feel blessed to know you are all out there doing what you do. Having conflict taking place on this scale touches everybody in this country wether they like it or not. Everyone knows someone who has "been there".
Having had friends both lost and injured in both Iraq and Afghanistan I cannot tell you how humbled I feel by the fact that you people just get on with it. Through thick and thin, with some seriously crap kit and unbeleivable odds stacked against you, you go on. I will remain ever thankful that you all have the courage to stand up and fight and face the ultimate sacrifice every day. Trev, Danny, Gaz, Ian and Rob, stay low stay fast! Come home safe. Ian, keep your lid on! I won't tell you again!!
Everyone else, God bless you and be safe.
A very grateful Policeman, Phil.

Im hoping to join the army in janurary.

So looking at it from my perspective, from a recruit who is about to join.. to see this much support amazes me. I am impressed with the amount of people who back our troops. It shows that out there, there are people who care. As a foreword, i am grateful for your support. It helps from the pennys to the pounds..

I hope to see EVERYBODY who has posted on this website at least plus freinds and family at the show in 2009... I will definitly be there to support them, whether this is through my own self, the cadet force or the regular army by that time..

Good job on the donations and support so far. Lets improve our goals and achieve the best. After all, the army motto.. "Be The Best"

Thanks again..

Just a note to say i believe our soldiers dont get enough praise for their hard work. Everyone talks about and admires footballers who are on a ridiculous amount of money for their non life threatening jobs for example and our soldiers are risking their lives to fight a war to protect our country and help other countries. Surely its the soldiers who deserve to be the role models and deserve better wages for what they do. My other half goes to Afghan next week its a horrible feeling but im so proud of what he and all the other soldiers are doing. I wear my wristband with pride and hope you all stay safe you are the heroes everyone should realise this.
Good luck x

I have just finished whatching "The secret Soldier" and am absolutely Appauled by the one sided approach this documentary has shown.

When will anyone realise the British Army is resposible for training serviceman to go to war. War is not pleasant, not nice or comfy, conditions are often basic and difficult and there is a major requirement for young soldiers to be hardened suitably to be of use in battle.

(I will aprove this but if it causes a debate on this website, I will remove the comment. If you like, you can use the blogs page for this type of view, thank you)

come on so called sirs help these people get a show on the ground
give your support and don't ask for payment for the use of display teams and bands

My son is a soldier, who I am very proud of. He loves his job despite being sent to conflict zones. He wanted to go back to Iraq to see the difference from when he went the first time. I remember him crying down the phone on one of the few chances he got, that the kids were barefoot in rags and begging for water and he felt so helpless.
I would like to thank Ross Kemp for telling it like it is. A very brave civillian who deserves much respect for the way he is supporting our troops.
And as a final note, the favourite items in the comfort boxes we sent out to the middle east contained Farleys rusks and Haribo sweets. My son wasnt too appreciative of the chocolate soup that was once a pack of Revels lol.
Stay safe xxx

I THOUGHT IT WAS TOUGH, BUT IT WAS NOTHING COMPARED TO WHAT OUR TROOPS ARE DOING, AND GOING THROUGH, BOTH IN IRAQ AND AFGANISTAN. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY THAT I THINK THEY ARE DOING A FANTASTIC JOB IN BOTH PLACES, AND THEY SHOULD BE PROUD OF WHAT THEY ARE ACHIEVING, AS SHOULD WE ALL BE PROUD OF THEM, REMEMBER GUYS AND GALS, YOU ARE SERVING IN THE BEST ARMY IN THE WORLD, BAR NONE. I admire what our lads and lasses are doing both in iraq and afghan. I had the privilage of working along side these guys on camps throughout the UK and I know how hard these guys work and they should be proud of their achievements. It might be there jobs but it is a bloody hard one. I was only a Part time soldier but with their skills I was taught many things but it was only a fracture of what they can do. I wore my uniform with pride and I believe that most of these soldiers do. Its frustrating when the government is doing nothing to help, they need better wages, better accomodation and more support from all of us.
God Bless you all for putting your lives before us.

I wish more people would give their support to all the troops who are doing a great job - and that's what it is for them, a job. I have the utmost respect for all the guys & girls sticking it out in such awful conditions. And I do not understand why some civilians are so ignorant, and even spiteful to the military personel - it takes a special person to commit & endure the "crap" that goes with it. And not just when they are on tour. Not to forget the injured who do not get the treatment or support they deserve.
Thanks and all the best to the troops!!!
And I am glad to see a web site like this which may give "Joe-Blogs" a rough idea of what it's like in the forces and why it is important to give support to our troops.

I have two wonderful sons serving in Her Majesty's Forces. One in the Army, one in the Royal Navy. I am extremely proud of what they achieve with the hundreds of young men and women beside them. I know what it is to fret about your loved one being in one of the war torn areas. My son has served in both Kosovo and Iraq. Its a shame that Britain can not support our troops of today as our parents and grandparents did during the last war. They need us behind them as we need them to protect us.....

I didn't have a clue to be honest exactly what being in the armed forces was all about.......until recently when I got talking to a lad who's in the infantry. He's been to Iraq and Afghanistan a few times but never mentioned anything relating to these missions. What I was shocked to hear about was the fact he daren't wear his uniform outside his job as he's been spat on and generally abused in the street. I think that its disgusting to treat our lads in that manner or our women. I support our troops and the good job they do, may god be with you all x

Both Joe and Mel have invested a great deal of time and indeed money into organising this event, which I am certain will prove to be a great success and will not just raise funds for their chosen charities but also raise support for all of the armed forces deployed throughout the world.
Our commitment to providing support will be unwaivering and both my staff and cadets will strive to do whatever we can to help.

I have recently had my eyes opened by an American friend in the USAF as to what really happens in Afgan. I wanted to show my thanks to my fellow Brits out there who do a job that most people would run from. You are true protectors and dont get the thanks you deserve. My hearts goes out to you, your families and friends. I would like to thank you for providing me with freedom. It is said that freedom costs nothing, they were wrong. Freedom has cost lives, the lives of your friends and colleagues who served and protected a belief. I am a stranger to you and will never experience the hell you go through, and because of men and women like you protecting our doorstop, I am forever grateful!
Thank you again. Stay safe and I hope you return to your families soon.

People have no idea what they go through out there i cannot even imagine what it is like. They are all heroes even though they say they are just doing their jobs. What a great site and what a truly wonderful sentiment behind it. Just a pity that we have to have sites and special events to remind 'Joe Public' that he should be "supporting our troops". I am an old Soldier. I have been out of the Army for a lot longer than I served. I am amazed at some of the negativity that greets me as a veteran. I am so fed up of people telling me we have no right to be in Afghanistan or Iraq. Well our troops didn't get the choice and they deserve every bit of our backing as we can give. Never mind the politics, get behind them and show that we are worthy of them.

Joe,
Just a quick note of thanks for your fantastic website and a big thankyou for organising what i think will be a very popular show. Due to being stuck in sunny Germany I won't be able to make it but some pics on here would be good!
I have been a serving soldier for the best part of 13 years now and am immensly proud of what I do. Its nice to see other people appreciate us 'doing our job' and in my humble opinion, doing it well. I have to say a big 'hats off' to Mr kemp in showing an accurate and un-biased documentary that shows the gritty truth.
To all who post here, military, ex military or civilian, please be assured your kind words do not fall on deaf ears and I and my fellow soldiers massively appreciate it. Thankyou.

To all the fallen, god bless, sleep well my friends.

As the parents of a Royal Marine who lost his life in Afghanistan 16 months ago, we would like to say how much we appreciated the programme fronted by Ross Kemp. It was excellent and showed more than any other programme just how professional and brave our troops are. We hope this will subsequently be seen by a wider audience. The way the programme illustrated the impact the loss of a loved one can have on families was well handled too. Ross was as compassionate as he was brave - but nowhere near the level of courage displayed by our troops. Our thoughts are with everyone currently serving abroad, especially in Afghanistan and Iraq, and with their families too. We are extremely proud of you all and look forward to your safe return.

Congratulations to Ross Kemp on a fantastic show, it is about time that someone showed what these HEROS in our armed forces are up against. I don't use the term HERO lightly, but if anyone deserves the title, they ALL do.

The government need to look at what you are all paid, it is scandalous that you are so underpaid.

You should all be very proud of what you are doing in the name of peace, both in Afghanistan, Iraq, Djibouti etc etc, I take my hat off to each and every one of you.

I spent a year (2005) in Iraq working as a civilian alongside the US forces, based in Kirkuk and Tikrit so I can appreciate some of the hardships that you go through although I know it certainly is much harder for you all.

I wish you all a safe tour, however long it lasts, be safe.

You guys n girls in Iraq and Afghanistan make me so so proud of you all. And a special word for those who were lost "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them". God Bless you all and thank you Ross Kemp for bringing an award winning TV Doc to our living rooms.

As an ex "Matelot" my comments may seem superfluous to this site. However, I have always felt pride in what any branch of our Armed Services have been involved in, be it in peace or war. The attidude of our so-called elected
representatives in London do not and cannot reflect the views of the people who serve this country of ours. They serve with quiet pride, commitment and dignity but are rewarded with little or nothing.

I have never had , in my Service life, had to endure the
trials and danger that our Soldiers in Afghanistan & Iraq
our enduring at the present time . It is time that the "Great British Public" was made more aware of the problems facing our troops ie lack of kit, lack of ammunition, lack of support, lack of government commitment.

Thank you!
You are all amazing people. The series by Ross kemp has opened my eyes to some of what you go through and how badly this country treats you. I am sorry for that and hope that the Government realises through this series that you should be paid more, get far better food, better/reliable equipment, more support back up, and better compensation without paying for your own insurances, this latter is totally scandalous! Thank you for all you are doing. Come home safe.

Hi All Serving Troops

Just wanted to say, I think you are doing an amazing job out there (wherever you are stationed) It must be hard for you, going through what you do, losing friends, and being so far away from friends and family. Just remember you have the backing and support from everyone back home. Keep up the good work, stay safe, peace be with you and God Bless You all. You're an army of angels xXxXx

my son is currently serving in afghanistan, for which i am very proud of him. Ross kemps portrayal of life over there is probably as real as anyone over here can get. the programme and Ross Kemp deserve some kind of accolade for the making of it. I send my love and respect to all serving soldiers.

This show is a really good idea, i completely agree with that fact that our soldiers need to be supported - the government do not seem to be. I know of a few lads who have been to Iraq and Afgan, and they say they they are doing what they trained to do. Well done and keep up the good work.
